MOSAICS
The mosaic artifacts within the Ojuelos de Jalisco collection represent some of the most advanced and archaeologically significant works of ancient stonecraft discovered to date. Each mosaic is composed of multiple distinct stone fragments—painstakingly assembled like a puzzle into a single cohesive form—then bonded with an ancient organic adhesive. This adhesive has become central to the scientific analysis of the site, providing C14 radiocarbon dating that places these artifacts on a timeline preceding many known Mesoamerican cultures.
While mosaic artistry is revered throughout Mesoamerican history, the Ojuelos pieces may represent an origin point—a source culture whose mastery of multi-stone composition and narrative engraving set a precedent for later traditions. What sets these artifacts apart is not only their layered construction, but the presence of engraved cosmic scenes, hybrid beings, and interdimensional symbols inscribed atop the mosaic surface. Their intricate assembly, artistic detail, and scientifically verified antiquity position them as evidence of an advanced, ancient civilization with a deep understanding of both aesthetic harmony and cosmic knowledge.
